Küchenhaus
The so-called Küchenhaus located to the north-west of the Sommerpalais imitates the Sommerpalais in its façade’s style. Both façades are divided by pilaster strips in a similar style. As was the case with the Sommerpalais, there had been a previous building at the location of the Küchenhaus.
The German word »Küchenhaus« indicates a house for the kitchen, attendants and storerooms. Nevertheless, it is assumed that neither the current building nor its predecessor were actually used for this purpose. It is more likely that the latter building was used by the noble family, possibly as a »Lusthaus« (summer house). Nowadays, the Küchenhaus houses the museum’s administrative offices on the upper floor and a café on the ground floor.
